The series contains the minutes of the Board of Commissioners of State Institutions, 1869-1968. Minute Book Q (September, 1944 - June 18, 1946) is missing. The minutes document the topics of discussion, decisions made, and actions taken by the Board. The records reflect the Board's involvement in managing the facilities of various state institutions, including the state prisons, psychiatric hospitals, juvenile detention homes, and colleges and universities. A partial index to the minutes is located in Series 410. It contains three bound volumes covering the years from 1919 to 1921 and card indexes for 1935 to 1958.
